Hospital of Dénia Marina Health

The Dénia Hospital, now part of the Ribera Salud group, is the leading healthcare center in the Marina Alta region of Alicante province, Spain. This hospital focuses its resources on providing high-quality, accessible, and local public healthcare, aiming to improve the quality of life of its patients through personalized healthcare.

Challenge

The objective of the Dénia Hospital was to be able to offer the option of doing exercises from home to patients with a certain degree of independence in order to avoid unnecessary travel and increase the operational capacity of the Hospital.

Solution

The Dénia Hospital developed a comprehensive protocol for patients eligible for telerehabilitation. These patients are identified based on criteria assessed by a physician from the Musculoskeletal Unit. From that point, the hospital’s physiotherapists design an individualized therapeutic exercise plan for each patient using Rehub. This digital telerehabilitation platform allows for monitoring patient progress and constant communication via chat and video call.

This protocol is open to patients with various conditions and circumstances, enabling it to address the widest range of needs. The average treatment duration using ReHub is between 7 and 8 weeks. Four weekly telerehabilitation sessions are prescribed, each including 4 to 5 exercises lasting approximately 12 minutes.

Results

ReHub usage has been increasing over the six months of use. The shoulder tops the list of most treated joints, followed by the spine, knee, and cervical spine, which have a similar number of cases. The variety of shoulder pathologies compared to other areas explains why the most treated conditions have been neck pain, lower back pain, and rotator cuff injuries, in that order. The most relevant metrics from this case study are listed below:
