The Dénia Health Department extends Tele-physiotherapy to Primary Care

Following the successful launch of the ReHub telerehabilitation platform at the Denia Hospital in 2020, both entities decided to expand the service to allow primary care professionals to refer their patients directly to this innovative online therapy. This decision stems from the need to continue providing effective and timely care to patients.

Telephysiotherapy will be offered to patients, who will receive personalized exercises during an in-person consultation with a physiotherapist and continue their training at home under remote professional supervision via the ReHub platform. Professionals have access to an extensive library of over 3,500 videos covering a wide range of treatments.

To date, over 7,000 sessions and 50,000 exercises have been performed using the platform, representing approximately 7% of all outpatient physiotherapy treatments. This has helped reduce waiting lists and delays in care, increasing service activity and improving patient follow-up, which has led to a decrease in relapses.

The AI-based motion recognition system allows patients to perform therapy from their mobile devices, tablets, or laptops, providing a comfortable, accessible, and safe experience, always supervised by a healthcare professional. It has proven especially beneficial for patients with cervical, dorsal, or lumbar pain, non-limiting shoulder conditions, and arthritic hip and knee problems with muscle weakness.

This underscores the effectiveness of this therapy, which has been rated by patients with an average of 4.2 out of 5, demonstrating their satisfaction with the treatment. Patient adherence to telephysiotherapy is similar to that of in-person sessions, highlighting its positive impact on healthcare and the quality of life of patients in the region.

Además de su implementación en la Atención Primaria, el Servicio de Fisioterapia está explorando la posibilidad de extender la duración del programa en la plataforma para que los pacientes puedan mantener su rutina de ejercicios a lo largo del tiempo. También se planea introducir terapias combinadas que abarquen tanto el entorno hospitalario como el domiciliario, especialmente para pacientes postquirúrgicos de hombro o rodilla.

El éxito de la telefisioterapia ha abierto nuevas perspectivas para futuras implementaciones en otras áreas de la fisioterapia. El Departamento de Salud de Dénia planea desarrollar planes específicos para pacientes operados de prótesis de cadera y rodilla, fomentando un trabajo domiciliario complementado con la rehabilitación presencial.

Además, Ventero vislumbra un futuro en el que la telerrehabilitación juega un papel importante en la prevención y promoción de la salud en Atención Primaria.
