EIT DiGinnovation Objective
ReHub is a digital rehabilitation project designed for the treatment of patients with non-specific low back pain, which uses AI and computer vision to provide personalized and real-time exercises. Instead of relying solely on in-person rehabilitation, ReHub enables rehabilitation from home, with continuous monitoring and automatic corrections of the patient’s movements. This approach not only improves accessibility and efficiency, but also accelerates recovery times and increases treatment adherence, reaching adherence rates of up to 85%.
Current project status
Currently in the validation phase, ReHub is carrying out a decentralized clinical trial with 120 participants in Germany, to test the effectiveness of the treatment and generate clinical evidence that allows its inclusion in the DiGA (Digital Health Applications), a system that allows the reimbursability of digital applications in the German health system. The project is also aligned with the requirements of the EU MDR (Medical Device Regulation), with a transition to Class IIa medical device classification.
Expected results
The expected impact of ReHub is significant in three areas:
- Health: The system is expected to benefit more than 160,000 European patients in three years, improving functional capacity and reducing the duration of disability.
- Economics: A cost reduction of up to 50% is projected compared to traditional rehabilitation treatments, which could generate significant savings for health systems, estimated at more than 12 million euros annually.
- Scalability: After its implementation in Germany, the project seeks to expand to other European countries, such as Austria and Switzerland, as well as international markets, leveraging its flexible subscription-based business model and the adoption of digital infrastructure across the healthcare sector.
